Antalya or Alanya? Don't Assume They're the Same
Alanya is administratively part of Antalya province, but as a holiday it's a different world — and about 130 km away. Short answer: Antalya (Lara/Belek/Kemer) for city comfort, history and a huge resort range; Alanya for friendlier prices, long sandy beaches and a lively young crowd.
Beaches
On the Antalya side: Konyaaltı and Lara city beaches, Belek's golf-resort coastline, Kemer's mountain-meets-sea setting. Alanya's icon is Cleopatra Beach — golden sand and clear water, one of Turkey's finest — with long stretches at İncekum and Avsallar too.
History and sightseeing
Antalya is very strong here: Kaleiçi old town, Aspendos, Perge, Side, the Düden and Kurşunlu waterfalls. Alanya's castle, Kızılkule tower and Damlataş cave fill half a day — variety is simply bigger in Antalya.
Atmosphere
Antalya is a real city: alive in every season, modern malls, a wide restaurant scene. Alanya is a compact resort town; its seafront buzzes late on summer nights with a distinctly young, European crowd.
Getting there
From Antalya Airport, Lara is ~20 minutes; Alanya is ~2 hours by road. Gazipaşa Airport is closer to Alanya (~45 minutes) but has limited flights. If post-flight transfer time matters, the Antalya side wins.
